Captain’s log #4

Captain’s log. 20 June 2025. Today, is the beginning of the end of our old library management system! First, yesterday, was the last day we would catalogue new books, fix errors in our catalogue records or even make changes to where a book is located (we sometimes move books; normally, from the reading room (Heythrop Mount Street) to Deepstore, but also from one off-site store to another. We have been very busy with preparing our data for the move, and tidying some things up, but there will be more work to come – sadly, for years (unfortunately, yes!). Second, the whole Library crew will need to prepare for not using our normal circulation system from Monday morning. Third, we will start testing the new system (again, we had a test load, and some testing then). If you are current library user, please check two of our pages: Scheduled closures: Thu 26 to Mon 30 June 2025! (read more about available services!), and Changing the System asap. The next time you will hear from the Library’s captain we will be flying with a “new ship”. All library staff might be a bit slower in doing certain things, and please be patient if things do not work as they usually do!
