One of the challenges I’ve recently faced as second officer (in charge of cataloguing), is to do with data cleaning. I took a training course on the library metadata editing software MarcEdit, in the hopes that it could help fix some common data issues in our catalogue records. I exported all of our library catalogue data into a file and then made edits to this file in MarcEdit. But when I tried to import the edited catalogue records back into our LMS, Koha, I was very disappointed to find the system wouldn’t let me!
It turned out the file size of the newly edited catalogue data was far too big to be able to complete the import. This means I have to focus on smaller batches of catalogue records to make changes to in MarcEdit. The smaller file size should make it easier to import them into Koha. Once again, I must boldly strive onwards in my data cleaning journey!
